Departure of our Marrakech to Merzouga 3-Day Desert tour from the city of Marrakech crossing the amazing Tichka Pass (the highest pass of the Atlas mountains) and crossing the Great Atlas, where we will discover remote Berber villages camouflaged in the landscape. Then we continue to Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Morocco. Visit of the kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a jewel of the region, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
It is a fortified village with beautiful crenellated and decorated towers, one of the most beautiful kasbahs in the Atlas region. We will continue along the road of the Thousand Kasbahs through the Valley of Roses to reach our destination, the Dades Valley. Night in a charming riad.
After breakfast we will head to the Erg Chebbi desert through one of the most spectacular places in Morocco: the Gorges of Todra. An ideal place to walk and discover its impressive and natural rock walls with more than 200 meters high. We will have time to take a walk through the gorges and then continue towards Merzouga Sahara. Arrival at the hotel where we will change the vehicle for the camels.
You will make a lovely desert trip through the dunes of Merzouga on the backs of these animals, in a two-hour journey to the tents / camp, located in these dunes, the largest in all of North Africa. You will contemplate the sunset from the top of the Erg Chebbi dunes and enjoy some of the most beautiful starry skies in the world. Night and dinner in the camp (Berber tents). Today you will start the day 3g> of your Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour by waking up early to enjoy the spectacular sunrise from the dunes. Then you will take the camels back to the hotel where you can take shower and have breakfast. We will continue on our way to Ouarzazate through Rissani, with its traditional medina, considered the largest in southern Morocco. Then we will continue to Alnif, Tazarine and the Draa Valley, with its impressive palm groves. We will continue towards Ouarzazate through the Berber village of Agdz and the port of AitSaoun (1,660 meters of altitude). Arrival at the end of the day to Marrakech. 1. Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
You won't need a sleeping bag on our Morocco tours as for the most part you'll be staying in 3-4 star hotels and our desert camp provides all the bedding you need including pillows and blankets. For your own personal comfort, you may wish to bring a sleeping bag liner to use at the desert camp.
2. How long is the camel trek in the Sahara?
We journey there by camel for an authentic Berber experience. The camel trek is about an hour and a half. If you prefer to walk then you can walk alongside our camel caravan but bear in mind that walking in sand can be tiring.
3. Is there another option if I do not want camel riding?
Yes, travellers who are not intrested in camel ride and want to spend night in the desert, we transfer them by 4WD to the desert camp.
4. What is the standard of hotels on your trips?
On our Signature product you'll be staying in a mix of 4 & 3 star modern hotels and traditional Moroccan riads. This gives you a chance to experience the local hospitality and stay in accommodation that reflects the character of Morocco. On our Adventure range of tours in Morocco the standard of accommodation is equivalent to a Western 3 star.
5. Is Moroccan food suitable for vegetarians?
Vegetables feature prominently in Moroccan cuisine so vegetarians should have no issues. It's true that Moroccans like their meat but it's always accompanied by a delicious range of vegetables and grains. There's a huge variety of salads to choose from, soups can easily be made vegetarian-friendly on request and the ubiquitous tagine and couscous dishes come in vegetarian options too.
